Bonnie’s Refrigerator Magnet Travelog
I’ve known Bonnie Pasek as a multi-modal artist and crucial volunteer for anything and everything at the church that needs doing. She’s smart, warm, creative, open to wonder, and a brilliant conversationalist — the perfect travel companion.
Here’s just one of her Covid projects, which she’s been sharing on her Facebook page. Each post starts a conversation, a sharing of stories. Classic Bonnie — making everywhere she goes a little better just by being there.
“I miss being able to travel this year, but the magnet collection on my refrigerator faces me every day bringing back fond memories. I love when crazy ideas pop into my head & sharing the magnets in a Facebook travelog has turned out to be interactive fun for many of my friends. You can literally stick with me for travel fun!”
“Kicking off this project with “The Maid of the Mist” from Niagara Falls. How many of you have been on this fair lady?”
“Today’s refrigerator magnet travelog features Michigan. A famous movie was filmed at the Grand Hotel in 1980. Anyone recall? Since we were already this far up the lower peninsula, we went on up to Sault Ste. Marie to watch freighters made their way between Lakes Superior and Huron at the Soo Locks.”
“Lady Liberty welcomes you to my refrigerator magnet travelog on this cloudy, drizzly Saturday morning. What was the last Broadway show you saw in NYC or favorite thing you did? I saw “Come From Away” with was pretty much the original Seattle cast.”
“Time to head out of the hot city and up to Cape Cod for today’s refrigerator magnet travelog. A long time ago my family spent the most wonderfully relaxing and fun week on Martha’s Vineyard. Have any of you been to the Cape?”
“Today, we are heading up the Atlantic Coast from the Cape directly to Maine on my refrigerator magnet travelog. Skipping Boston on the way (I went to college there). I actually lived a year in Portland, ME. There’s nothing like a summer stay in Maine!”
“We cross the border into Quebec, Canada today because you can if you are a refrigerator magnet on my travelog! I feel so lucky to have been able to visit this quaint and beautiful settlement. Has anyone else been there?”
“On our refrigerator magnet tour today! Thousand Islands is one of the more obscure places I’ve been. Located in Lake Ontario at the mouth of the St. Lawrence Seaway on the border between New York State & Ontario, Canada. Boldt Castle is cool tourist attraction. Extremely beautiful place & I had the best surf & turf meal of my life. Check out this quick video”
“The moose are on the loose today (or stuck, really) on our refrigerator magnet travelog! Alaska was a spectacular trip for me. What were your favorite places or things to do in our 49th state?”
“On my refrigerator magnet travelog today is Charleston, South Carolina. It was the cleanest, neatest city I’ve ever been to. Quite scenic and charming. Have you been there?”

“There’s no safer way to visit Florida right now than with today’s Refrigerator Magnet Travelog. Over the years, I’ve been a few places. My sister & her husband winter in Naples which is lovely. Where have you traveled in Florida?”
“Today we head way over to our 50th state of Hawaii on our refrigerator magnet tour. I’ve only been to Maui and Oahu. Coolest thing I saw was a surfing contest on the North Shore with massive waves. What’s your favorite Hawaiian Island?”
“Heading west outta Florida to another hot & humid destination on our refrigerator magnet travelog: New Orleans. Beignets, great food and music. My favorite memory though is a lazy tube float on the Tickfaw River outside of the city.”
“Party’s over in New Orleans. Heading to a drier place on my Refrigerator Magnet Travelog. When I was 12 my parents took us out west from Ohio. My first plane ride! We saw Grand, Bryce & Zion Canyons. I wanted so bad to ride a donkey into the Canyon. Mom said no. I’m still upset about it. What are your Canyon stories?”
“Magical sunset mesas at Big Bend National Park today on my Refrigerator Magnet Travelog. Our cabin faced the V and the sun set directly in it. We also hit Marfa, Texas, which has its own UFO stories. Not easy to get to, but very worth it!”
“We’re in the Windy City today on my Refrigerator Magnet Travelog. I loved the boat architecture tour, Art Institute, top of the Hancock and more! What about you?”
