The Creative Process
The Creative Process
As we enter into March and the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere, we explore this month’s theme of the creative process. In spring we are most aware of the generative phase of the creative process, with flowers bursting forth from the ground and trees blossoming we are surrounded by renewed life and new growth. Yet the creative process in its fullness, is always happening. Every moment we are individually and collectively in the creative process and part of the creative process. Every life is its own creative unfolding.
So, what are we creating? What is the quality of our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs through which we are creating?
In Unity, one way of engaging with the creative process is through the metaphysical interpretation of the Holy Trinity. In Christian tradition, the Holy Trinity is the Father – Son – Spirit or God – Christ – Holy Spirit. Looking through a metaphysical lens, it is Mind – Idea – Expression. Divine Mind is Source / God / Oneness from which all that is created flows. Divine Ideas are the individualized flow of that Oneness. Expression is the manifestation of those Divine Ideas in our lives and in the world.
This is the universal creative process in which everything comes into being. Many people are focused solely on the last phase of this creative process – the things and experiences created. When we consciously work with the first two phases as well, we elevate what is being brought forth into the world. Then the ideas that we express and experiences we create are on a strong spiritual foundation.
What does this look like in practice?
We enter into prayer and meditation to align with and be firmly rooted in our Oneness and our ever-present connection to God, Source, Spirit, Infinite Love and Wisdom.
We create space to listen with divine understanding and wisdom for the ideas that we are called to express in our lives and in the world. Slowing down in prayer and meditation to discern, is this coming from a place of ego or a reaction to someone or something, or am I responding from an awareness of the oneness of all creation and the inherent worth of each person.
Let all of our being and doing be imbued with divine love and wisdom from this space of slowing down, connecting with our Oneness. During this season of Lent, leading up to Easter, let us use this time to release limiting thoughts and beliefs, continually release the heaviness that can accumulate in our mind and body as we walk through this world, so that we may be clear expressions of life. In do so, we each bring forth more beautiful, life-affirming creations. We transform chaos into beauty, compassion, and connection.
Spring Blessings,
