About the Sermon

Rev. Karen explores various ways we can grow from interpreting the phrase from Genesis, “In the Beginning was the Word” as a way to gain access to the inner voice. Karen uses several ways of illustrating how to grow in this way: her own personal experiences of finding her voice; the story of singer and songwriter Carole King; and the story of award-winning conservation expert Marcia Rutan, told live by Marcia herself; the story of Rosa Parks; and an exercise in chanting OM (aum).

Read about Marcia Rutan.

Quotations important to this Sermon:

John 1: 1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Maitri Upanishad: “Om is the primordial throb of the universe. It is the sound form of Atma.”

Mahatma Gandi: “Everyone who wills can hear the inner voice. It is within everyone.”

Charles Fillmore: “The word is the creative idea in Divine Mind. The creative word lays hold of Spirit substance and power.”

Key ideas in this sermon:

1. Finding your voice requires listening. When you can hear your inner Voice and can speak from that place, your words have power and are healing.

2. Trust your voice. Speak your truth. It’s how the world changes.
