SERMON DETAILS—Rev. Karen Lindvig gives her sermon titled “The Edges of Consciousness.” This sermon expands the theme for 2014 called “Soul-Trek.” The sub-theme in the month of August is exploring the edge. In “The Edges of Consciousness,” she leads the spiritual community to experience some of the edges of consciousness. She illustrates this idea with an example of way a family learned an amazing way, through shifts in consciousness, to deal with a parent who had Alzheimer’s, as well as stories about the founders of the world religions including Jesus, Buddha, Moses and Mohammed, who explored their edges of consciousness. She also described some of the unexpected accomplishments of one of our Seattle Unity members—dentist Dr. Felix Marcial—who recently earned awards in track and field events. Rev. Karen calls the community towards a vision described by Unity teachings and the words of Catholic theologian and geologist, Teilhard de Chardin. Rev. Karen describes how Teilhard de Chardin postulates an Omega Point in Earth’s history as this supreme point of complexity and consciousness, which in his view is the actual cause for the universe to grow in complexity and consciousness.

Some quotations related to this sermon:

Matthew 13:33 “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, till it was all leavened.”

Charles Fillmore: “The unfoldment of this consciousness by Jesus made Him God incarnate, because Christ is the Mind of God individualized. Whoever so loses his personality as to be swallowed up in God become Christ Jesus or God-man.”

Teilhard de Chardin: “The day will come when, after harnessing space, the winds, the tides, and gravitation, we shall harness for God the energies of love. And on that day, for the second time in the history of the world, we shall have discovered fire.”

Ideas related to this sermon:

1. “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.” Kahlil Gibran

2. Every generation is born to bring a new awareness into the world. It builds on the previous one and takes us a step closer to Christ Consciousness.

3. We have no choice but to go over the edge and awaken fully to Christ Consciousness.
