In honor of Black History Month, Rev. Karen began today’s talk with a reading of “Let America Be America Again” read by Umoja member Evelyn Reingold.
Rev. Karen then talked of how great we are at distracting ourselves from uncomfortable emotions. referring to Pema Chödrön’s book, “Living Beautifully with Uncertainty and Change”, she invited us to move consciously into the pain of the world, in order to help alleviate it.
She spoke of the importance of looking at and learning from the past. Finally, she led us in a 90 second practice of feeling.
Our featured artist, Jimmie Herrod, crooned to us in his wonderfully engaging style.
