Rev. Karen introduced our 2019 annual theme today, which is “Riding the Tide of Impermanence”.
In today’s talk, she invited us to enjoy the ride, as change is inevitable in life. So, how do we stay whole-hearted in the midst of change? One way is to remember that, underlying all of the unceasing change is the permanence of God, or Spirit (or however you name your Divine).
With stories of her own recollections of a beloved place, her yoga ashram, she looked at nostalgia: what it is, what are its benefits, and what are its drawbacks.
She also brought into the discussion our church building, and all of the thousands who hold this place in sacred memories.
“When we resist change, it’s called suffering. But when we can completely let go and not struggle against it, when we can embrace the groundlessness of our situation and relax into it’s dynamic quality, that’s called enlightenment.”
