Preview Service & Open House at Metropolist
News flash!!!!!!! There will be NO SUNDAY SERVICE at Seattle Unity’s building next Sunday October 7th!!!!!
OMG! Why??? As a part of embracing change, and preparing for our move-out from our current building, we are having our first Preview Sunday Service and Open House at 10 am next Sunday October 7th at Metropolist, (2931 1st Ave S Seattle 98134), which will be our temporary service home beginning in the spring of 2019.
We would LOVE to have you join us at Metropolist, at 10 am, and work with our core principles and teachings in this bright space.
For the bus riders among you, here’s the link to Metro’s Trip Planner.
We also encourage you to join together, organize with your Unity friends, and carpool to the service. Concerned about parking? Here’s a guide map.
And bring a friend – what a great time to introduce a new person to Seattle Unity in the new space, where we all will be newbies on some level.

Out in the World
Leah Mann is leading an art project, “The Human Murmuration” at the Parliament of World Religions in early November in Toronto. Youth Ed Director Marla Durden, and congregant Evelyn Reingold are also participating. We got a preview of this work at the Martha Creek workshop on Saturday Sept. 8th – it’s quite something. Ask them about it when you see them, or email Leah.Lelavision@gmail.com. We’re so proud of all of you, out representing the best of Seattle Unity in the wide world!
You can contribute! Help represent Seattle Unity at the Parliament! Your donation goes to help for pay travel expenses. https://www.gofundme.com/powr-crew-from-seattle-unity

October: 4 Weeks to Healthier Habits
WEEK 1: EAT WELL AND DRINK WATER
Clear your kitchen of foods containing high sodium content, fats, and foods with added sugar. When grocery shopping, fill a third of your cart with fresh vegetables and fruits. My recommendation is to take your body weight and divide it in half; that number in ounces is the amount of water your body can benefit from for your height, your weight, your resting metabolism (Ex: 150 pounds / 2 = 75 ounces of water)… Because when you’re asleep your heart, your kidneys, your liver, your lungs, and all your organs are still working for you. Drink half of those ounces by the first half of your day.
WEEK 2: GET MOVING
If you’re no regular exerciser, it’s okay. Take a walk everyday. This is a deliberate walk outside of your regular walking to the bus stop. Some people have to be mindful of getting their heart rate up, yet can still take regular walks. Mark your calendar to help remind and encourage yourself. Start with 10 minutes and add one minute each day. Keep at it until you reach or surpass 30 minutes, then work to increase the intensity of activity. No excuses, you can start with fewer minutes.
WEEK 3: FIND BALANCE
Locate a quiet place where you can be alone and free from distraction and sit or be in a relaxing position quietly. Breathe in slowly through your nose, expanding your belly and then exhale out through your mouth bringing your belly button towards your spine. Expand belly breathing in, exhale through the mouth bring belly button in towards the spine.
Continue for five minutes or longer, depending on how much “calm” time you need to counterbalance your day, every day. This “calm” time or “meditation” time can be as long as an hour or as short as 5 minutes. Many people find a balance between 15-20 minutes daily.
WEEK 4: SLEEP MORE
Turn down lights and “disconnect” from screens (television, computer, phone) 30 minutes before bedtime. Practice the deep breathing you started in week 3 to calm down before bedtime. Go to bed 15 minutes earlier, and do so each day until you wake up feeling energized and refreshed on time all the time without an alarm clock. Practice. Sleep is relative. Some of us desire more, some of us desire less. Once you’re in your comfy bed and have given appreciation for your day, give thanks for having a good night’s (or day’s if your schedule is different) sleep. May you sleep deep and sleep well. Sleep is not overrated.
Peace and Blessings~
