Legacy Giving Campaign Kickoff!

Legacy Tree by Artist Claudia Ashley-Brown

Legacy Giving Campaign Kickoff

Seattle Unity has been extremely blessed by several bequests over the years that have allowed this spiritual community to thrive.  For example, the bequests from Jack MacDonald and Robert MacDonald (no relation) provided the initial funds for our current Reserve Fund and Endowment Fund.  The money in the Reserve Fund allowed us to begin initial steps in our new building project before we had sold the neighboring portion of the property.  Interest from our Endowment Fund helps support our day-to-day operations each year since we received those gifts; in addition to our Stewards that have committed to donations throughout the year.

The Board has discussed a Legacy Giving Campaign the past couple of years, and we have finally launched with the installation of the Legacy Tree art installation on 8/11.  Claudia Ashley-Brown (sister of community member, Julia Hill) has designed and installed more than 45 of these trees for various non-profits in England and this is her first in the U.S.  A big shout-out and thank you to Rick Miller, who helped Claudia and her husband, Ray, with the installation.  The first two engraved leaves have the names of Robert MacDonald and Jack MacDonald.

We are reaching out with a heartfelt invitation to reflection something deeply meaningful—not just for today, but for generations to come.

Seattle Unity has long been a spiritual home for so many of us—a sanctuary ofhealing, joy, and transformation. As we look ahead, we are planting seeds todayfor a thriving spiritual community tomorrow. That’s the vision behind ourLegacy Giving Campaign: “Growing Our Future Together.”

Legacy giving isn’t about wealth—it’s about intention. Whether your estate is large or modest, including Seattle Unity in your will or retirement plan is a sacred act of faith and love. It’s a way to affirm your values, ensure the continuity of our shared mission, and leave a lasting imprint of generosity.

Many are surprised to learn how simple it can be:

  • Add Seattle Unity as a beneficiary to a retirement account or life insurance policy.
  • Include a bequest in your will—no immediate gift required.
  • Contribute to our endowment to ensure sustainability for generations to come.

One of the greatest hurdles that stops many people is putting a will in place.  Did you know that nearly 70% of American adults don’t have a will or estate plan?  Freewill.com is a great resource you may want to look into.  It can generate a will in as little as 20 minutes and is tailored to your state’s estate laws, and it is free!  Freewill is used by several local non-profits as well as thousands across the country.

However you choose to plan, thank you for taking steps to care for those you love – including Seattle Unity.  If you’re interested in making a legacy gift and having your own name inscribed on a leaf to become a member of the Tree of LifeSociety, please review the information on the Seattle Unity website under Legacy Giving.
