General Contractor Selected!

Thanks to everyone who attended our April 30th Special Congregational Meeting! We appreciate your engagement and feedback. We shared it with Olson Kundig and the Seattle Unity Design Team.

At the special meeting, we enjoyed a presentation by Olson Kundig on the initial conceptual vision of the new building beginning to take shape. The concept developed from the programming input of our community last summer and fall.

Olson Kundig are beginning the schematic design phase, which will continue through the summer and then lead into the design phase.

Shortly following our Special Congregational Meeting, we selected Sellen as our General Contractor (GC). Sellen is a South Lake Union company that brings a tremendous level of expertise, quality, and excitement to the project team. They are also the GC on the 9th & John redevelopment project across the alley from us. We do have a dedicated team working solely for Seattle Unity. Yes, in case you missed it – not only will our current property be redeveloped with our new spiritual home and a neighboring residential tower, but east of the alley there will be redevelopment of a mixed-use residential tower.

Sellen has existing experience with our Project Management company, Costigan Integrated, and our architects, Olson Kundig. They have a strong interest in community engagement throughout the project, so you will be hearing more as we move further along.

At the April 30th meeting we presented an updated timeline: our tentative ‘move out’ date is summer 2018.

We also presented the first draft organizational chart – there are an amazing number of players in this project already!

We are currently working to locate and secure temporary space and will keep you updated as this progresses.

The Change Team leads several ongoing events with “This is US!”, including individual room blessings and capturing storytelling on video. Didi Graves’ blog gives more on this.
