February Risers News
In 2026, the Risers look forward to engaging in a variety of activities that support social justice.
Some work will be to register voters and get out the vote (GOTV) during the election season. The election season is not just later this year! It includes primary races now underway across the country.
Risers plan to rally at upcoming protests and will alert the larger church community when those dates are announced. There are also options to Adopt-A-Corner (support day laborers at Home Depots), put together ICE-alert whistle kits, and donate clothing and funds to people in ICE detention.
Also, we would love to refer interested attorneys in our Unity community to El Centro de la Raza or the Northwest Immigrant’s Rights Project. These organizations desperately need volunteers to provide pro bono services to immigrants.
Here are some specific legislative proposals supported by the Faith Action Network, the ACLU, and others:
Federal legislation:
- The Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act – HR 6397 (Pramila Jayapal)
- Restoring Food Security for American Families and Farmers Act – SB 3281 (Food Research & Action Center)
State legislation:
- Fair Score Act – HB 1274 (ACLU, FAN)
- Second Look Pathway for Youth – HB 1317 (ACLU, FAN)
- Shelter, Not Penalties Act – HB 2489 (ACLU, FAN)
- Driver Privacy Act – SB 6002, HB 2332 (ACLU)
- The Immigrant Worker Protection Act – SB 5852 (FAN)
- Ban Face Coverings by Law Enforcement Officers – SB 5855, HB 2173 (FAN)
- Expand opportunities for affordable housing developments – SB 5885, HB 1859 (FAN)
- Millionaires’ income tax – TBD (FAN)
We are looking into other legislative proposals at the local, state, and federal level that Risers might support and will share information about them when available.
The Risers meet every 4th Sunday after the Service. Everyone is invited to join us!
