http://seattleunity.org—Rev. Karen Lindvig builds on her theme for November, which is to explore the meaning of one’s spiritual home. In “The Power of Gratitude” sermon, she explores the science of happiness, and describes key ideas, references to studies, a quotation from Jesus, and real-life examples which relate personal happiness to expressions of gratitude to our loved ones.
She also explores the meaning of home relative to our Seattle Unity Church. In part she does this by telling the history of the building and those who built it. She also shows a five-minute film which shows some of those who built the church explaining their plans, dreams and experiences in manifesting the current Seattle Unity Church building.
Key quotations and ideas related to this sermon:
Matthew 13:12: “For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”
Thomas Merton: “To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything He has given us. Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a grace. For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience.”
Kelly McGonigal: “After you ask yourself, ‘What am I grateful for?’ consider asking, ‘what have I done recently that others might be grateful for?'”
