Karen Lindvig offers her sermon titled “In the Beginning.” It is her first sermon after introducing the 2017 Annual Theme of “Transformational Journey.” Building on the previous revious themes of this decade, Karen is proposing we now use the tools from the last few years to step forward into this transformational journey.” “In the Beginning” approaches the transformational journey with a focus on inner development through using using the 12 powers, the world religions, using archetypes, the dreaming process, soul treking, and more. These skills and practices, tools and methods, can bring about transformations in body and mind; in our relationships; in our community, city region, state, nation and across Earth itself. She starts with the metaphor of light in Genesis as a force that awakens us saying “Let there be light.” This sermon focuses on building the imagination. She related stories from in addition to Genesis, from Jean Houston, Albert Einstein, Mohammed Ali, Swami Vivekananda, and Dr. Mae Jemison to support how to feed and grow our imaginations.

Swami Vivekananda: Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life—think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success, that is the way great spiritual giants are produced.”
Genesis 1:1-3: In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth. Now the Earth was formless and empty, darkness was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
