Rev. Karen Lindvig Sermon “Change for Good”
http://seattleunity.org—In this Sunday sermon titled “Change for Good,” Rev. Karen Lindvig elaborates on the Annual Theme of the Transformational Journey by revealing some of the lessons that Scandinavian nations offer to Americans. Derived from her recent exploratory trip to Denmark, Germany and Romania, Karen recounts with amazement about the living conditions and social practices that exist in these nations. And she wonders how societies in Scandinavia transform from massive populations of people fleeing poverty, to being one of the happiest places to live on the planet? She lists several of the social democratic policies she witnessed in areas of Scandinavian society, including education, wages, support for education, maternity and paternity leave for the health of their children, wages, vacation, support for seniors, transportation, energy conservation and pollution, and more. She also traces the history of the transformational journey of Denmark by recounting the influences of 19th-century pastor, author, poet and politician Rev. Nikolaj Grundtvig. She describes further comparisons of Germany’s reconciling with the Nazi era with American struggles with racism and white supremacy. Rev. Karen then calls for each of us to transform our lives, our nation and our planet.
